Attending Weddings

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no “zero risk” when it comes to any kind of gathering – especially events that bring groups of people together. Regardless of the size of the event, you are at risk from COVID-19 whenever you get together with people. The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily indoors, especially in poorly ventilated settings.

If you don’t feel well or show any symptoms of COVID-19, stay home.

If you choose to attend a gathering, practice prevention measures, regardless of your COVID-19 vaccination status:

  • keep at least a 1 metre distance from others;
  • wear a mask;
  • avoid crowded or poorly ventilated areas;
  • cover coughs and sneezes with bent elbow or tissues; and
  • clean your hands frequently.

These measures are a good idea to protect yourself and others, even when the event or venue doesn’t require you to practice them.

Travel Advice from Govt

You may wish to consider the following in order to help you to travel safely:

  • plan your journey and check your route
  • check with your operator regarding any policies they may have in place
  • open or keep windows open for ventilation where it is possible for you to do so
  • wash or sanitise your hands regularly
  • avoid touching your face
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of your elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • dispose of waste safely, including items such as used disposable face coverings.

You must not travel at all if you:

If you’re fully vaccinated, or under 18 and 6 months, you’re not required to self-isolate if you’ve had close contact with someone with COVID-19

Travel and coronavirus testing

If you have symptoms of coronavirus, even if they are mild, you must stay at home while you are waiting for a home self-sampling kit, a test site appointment or a test result. If you need to leave your home to get to a test site, limit your contact with other people and return home immediately afterwards.

Social distancing

Social distancing rules (2 metres or 1 metre with additional mitigations) are lifted.

Social distancing will only be required in limited circumstances such as at ports of entry for passengers between disembarkation and border control in order to manage the risk of variants of concern being transmitted between individuals.

Face coverings

COVID-19 spreads through the air by droplets and aerosols that are exhaled from the nose and mouth of an infected person. The requirement to wear face coverings in law has been lifted. However, the government expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport.

When wearing a face covering:

  • it is important to wash or sanitise your hands before and after touching your face covering
  • use a ‘black bag’ waste bin or litter bin to dispose of it – you should not put face coverings in a recycling bin or drop them as litter
  • be mindful that a face covering may inhibit communication with people who rely on lip reading, facial expressions and clear sound

You should remove your face covering if asked to do so by a police officer or other relevant person.

On your journey

Even after you have received a vaccine, you should continue to follow this guidance on how to travel safely when using public transport.

Help keep yourself, other passengers and transport staff safe by observing the following precautions:

  • plan your journey and check your route to identify the options for reaching your destination
  • open windows where it is possible and safe to do so
  • wash or sanitise your hands regularly
  • avoid touching your face
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of your elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • while waiting for a service to arrive stay outdoors, rather than indoors, where possible
  • dispose of waste safely, including items such as used disposable face coverings
  • respect other people and be considerate of them while travelling
  • be aware of pregnant, older and disabled people who may require a seat or extra space
  • where possible, check in using the NHS COVID-19 app if you enter a venue that has an official NHS COVID-19 QR code poster at the entrance – alternatively, you can provide your contact details

Treat transport staff with respect and follow instructions from your transport operator.

When finishing your journey wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or sanitise your hands as soon as possible – do the same for children who have travelled with you
